Lawyer Yerlan Gazymzhanov has spoken out on the conflict between Aruzhan Bishimbayeva, a relative of Kuandyk Bishimbayev, and the owners of the Zima nightclub, Orda.kz reports.
According to Gazymzhanov, in January 2024 — at the height of the criminal case against Bishimbayev — ZIMA ASTANA LLP rented premises in the Gastrocenter to run an entertainment business.
Soon after, complaints about the club began appearing on social media.
Until five or six in the morning, loud music blares, keeping residents from sleeping. Security guards beat and insult visitors, fights break out, and cries for help can be heard. There were also reports of the sale of hookahs and laughing gas balloons. Since the police proved powerless, the building’s owners decided to terminate the lease early — an option provided for in the contract. The termination was officially registered. the lawyer stated.
He added that club employees then “began breaking locks and continued operating.”
Bartenders even staged a protest, demanding that the electricity supply be restored.
The police could not even hold them accountable for the notorious ‘unauthorized protest.’ Now, every time in front of the police, the club staff open the electrical panel, reconnect themselves to the utilities, and continue working. Even formal complaints to police demanding action against lawlessness and the sale of hookahs and laughing gas balloons are ignored. One of the security guards hired to protect the electrical panel explained his inaction by saying that ‘they control Astana.’
Gazymzhanov called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General’s Office to halt the illegal distribution of hookahs and nitrous oxide products and to hold those responsible accountable.
And finally explain: is there state authority in the capital, and who really ‘control’ Astana? he concluded.
The scandal centers on the premises of the Gastrocenter, where in February 2023, Kuandyk Bishimbayev killed his partner, Saltanat Nukenova. Following the tragedy, the Bishimbayev family announced their withdrawal from managing the complex.
However, a conflict has now erupted between the Zima club and Aruzhan Bishimbayeva.
The club’s owners insist they legally purchased the premises and are operating lawfully. They allege that Aruzhan shut off the electricity and is trying to secure an additional agreement through the complex administration, requiring the club to vacate in December.
The nightclub considers this sabotage and questions whether the Bishimbayev family has truly withdrawn from managing the Gastrocenter.
