A fire has broken out at a municipal solid waste landfill in Astana’s Baikonur district, near Alash Highway, Orda.kz reports, citing the Emergency Situations Ministry.
About 100 people and 47 units of equipment are involved in extinguishing the fire. Rescuers and local authorities are working at the scene.
Firefighting efforts are complicated by thick smoke and the nature of burning household waste. Work is still ongoing.
