President Sadyr Japarov claimed human rights defender Aziza Abdyrasulova, who fled Kyrgyzstan, "faces no threats" in a recent interview with state news agency Kabar, Orda reports, citing Kloop.

He said her concerns were "politicization," stating she "will eventually return and walk freely."

Japarov suggested that anyone facing harassment could document it with cameras and report it to authorities or via social media.

While affirming support for democracy and free speech, he warned against "slander and baseless accusations."

Abdyrasulova, Japarov's public defender in 2013, told Radio Azattyk in December 2024 that she left the country after receiving threatening calls.

Earlier, at the People's Kurultai, Japarov had criticized Abdyrasulova and other activists for allegedly spreading "false information" and making unsubstantiated claims.

Abdyrasulova has been a human rights advocate since the early 2000s.
