Kyiv came under a major drone and missile attack during the night of June 16, resulting in significant destruction and casualties, Orda.kz reports, citing Unian.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, 14 people were killed and 60 were injured after Russian forces launched 175 drones and over 14 cruise and ballistic missiles, mostly targeting residential areas. Other reports indicate over 100 injured and at least 15 dead.
Destruction was recorded in six districts of the city. In the Solomensky district, a section of a residential building collapsed. Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that rescue operations are ongoing and confirmed the death of a 62-year-old U.S. citizen.
“More than 40 people were injured, 30 of whom were hospitalized,” Klitschko said in a morning briefing.
Later, the Ministry updated the figures: 44 injured in total, and 27 separate locations were affected by the strikes. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, 18 people were injured in the Svyatoshinsky district alone.
Fires broke out in multiple areas, and air quality in the city has deteriorated.
Dormitories at the Kyiv Aviation Institute were also damaged, with students reportedly injured. Emergency services remain active at the impacted sites.
On the night of June 6, another strike on Kyiv killed at least four people and injured over 20. That attack also damaged residential buildings, the metro, and other civilian infrastructure.
