Kozhamzharov’s Team: Former Prosecutor Maksat Duissenov Detained in Germany at Kazakhstan’s Request
Former prosecutor Maksat Duissenov has been detained in the German city of Fürth at the request of Kazakhstan, Orda.kz sources report.
The information has been relayed to the leadership of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Presidential Administration. Duissenov was not alone at the time of his arrest.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan confirmed the detention:
At the request of Interpol, citizen D., who was on the international wanted list, was detained in Fürth. He was identified and taken into custody by German law enforcement agencies as part of international cooperation through Interpol. The Ministry of the Interior continues to actively collaborate with foreign colleagues and international organizations to ensure the inevitability of punishment.
Who is Duissenov?
Duissenov’s career was closely tied to the financial police and anti-corruption bodies. He was considered part of Kairat Kozhamzharov’s team, holding key positions during Kozhamzharov’s leadership of the financial police and later the Prosecutor General’s Office.
In 2011, he publicly commented on arrests in the high-profile Khorgos case. Under Kozhamzharov’s tenure as Prosecutor General, Duissenov rose from deputy head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau to chief transport prosecutor.
After Kozhamzharov moved to the Senate in spring 2019, Duissenov lost his position.
Earlier this summer, it was revealed that associates of Kozhamzharov — Talgat Tatubayev, Olesya Keksel, and Bauyrzhan Muzhikov — were under investigation for torture.
More recently, the Prosecutor General’s Office officially confirmed a pre-trial investigation against Kozhamzharov himself.
