KNB and Military Auction Off Body Armor, Gas Masks and Nazarbayev Portraits

State-owned Kazspetsexport has put decommissioned property from Kazakhstan’s security agencies up for auction. The lots include 130 bulletproof vests, 72 gas masks, 20 dosimeters, night-vision equipment, communications devices and portraits of former President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Orda.kz reports.
Five ZhZT-71 bulletproof vests from a KNB detention facility have a combined starting price of 16,500 tenge, or about 3,300 tenge each. Two other lots contain 60 and 65 Class III bulletproof vests, with a combined starting price of 1.83 million tenge.
The auction terms require the vests to be disposed of, indicating that they are no longer fit for use.
The KNB’s Special Purpose Service “A” is selling 129 pieces of household and video equipment for 344,700 tenge, four pieces of medical equipment for 373,800 tenge and 72 PMK military gas masks for 118,800 tenge.
The auction also includes 20 MKS-05 Terra personal dosimeters priced at 378,000 tenge and 22 PMV-546 devices, also known as PNV-57E night-vision equipment, for 1.4 million tenge. The latter were designed for driving military vehicles at night and will be offered through a descending-price auction.
The most expensive lot belongs to a facilities maintenance service. Cabinets, control panels, rectifiers and other equipment were valued at 20.1 million tenge.
A Ural fire engine is being sold separately for 2.47 million tenge, along with two batches of vehicle tires. One batch contains 6,682 tires of various types with a combined starting price of 1.13 million tenge — an average of just 169 tenge each. Their price and the listing photographs suggest that they are worn out or no longer usable.
The appraisal report also lists mine detectors, body-cooling systems, field kitchens, heaters, safes and three portraits of Nazarbayev described as being in satisfactory condition.
The main auctions are scheduled for August 11 and 13.
