Khasan Kasymbayev: Trial Begins in Almaty Court
In the Almaty region, the trial has begun for Khasan Kasymbayev, who has been called the leader of the “Khutor” organized crime group following the death of Sherzat Polat, Orda.kz reports.
Alongside Kasymbayev, the defendants include Madiyar Kalimzhanov, Daniyar Askarov, Nurmukhamet Sultanbekov, Ruslan Aliyev, and Sailau Akzhanov. The case is presided over by Judge Ainagul Tukibayeva, with two victims listed.
Kasymbayev faces charges of kidnapping, assault, and extortion. One of the victims, Arman Alimov, told the court he had known Kasymbayev since 2016 but had no conflict with the other defendants.
“In fact, I only had tense relations with Khasan. With the others, there was no hostility,” Alimov said.
During the hearing, Kasymbayev’s lawyers demanded the removal of prosecutor Nazgul Taukekenbay, noting that she had previously taken part in a 2021 case involving Alimov’s beating. The judge granted the request.
The trial continues. Orda.kz is following the proceedings.
Kasymbayev’s name gained wide recognition after the Sherzat Polat homicide case. While police deny the existence of the “Khutor” group, many locals claim otherwise. Kasymbayev himself, in an earlier interview with Orda.kz, rejected any links to the criminal world.
