The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan has issued a fatwa against childfree ideology, Orda.kz reports.
The muftiate said the conscious refusal to have children contradicts Sharia.
In the fatwa, the Spiritual Administration analyzed the main arguments of childfree ideology, including unwillingness to spend money on raising a child, refusal to take responsibility, and prioritizing personal freedom or career.
The muftiate called these arguments incompatible with Islam.
Sharia does not approve of refusing to have children out of fear of poverty or unwillingness to take responsibility. Any methods that permanently deprive a person of the ability to have offspring are considered haram, the fatwa says.
At the same time, the muftiate allowed temporary postponement of pregnancy, but only for valid reasons. In such cases, the decision should be made jointly by both spouses, and the chosen method should not harm health.
The Spiritual Administration also said childfree ideology weakens the institution of the family and negatively affects the future of society and the nation.
