Kazakhstan To Speed Up Registration Of U.S. And European Medicines

Kazakhstan plans to speed up medicine registration and reduce bureaucracy for drugs supplied from the U.S. and Europe, Orda.kz reports.
Mazhilis deputy Askhat Aimagambetov said the relevant law has already been amended to simplify the entry of medicines into the Kazakh market, including drugs already approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency.
If a medicine has already passed the strictest control and been approved in the United States or Europe, it makes no sense for us to recheck it for years. Such medicines will now be registered under an accelerated procedure in just 15 days,Aimagambetov said.
The amendments also give the Health Ministry new powers. It will now be able to initiate the registration of necessary medicines on its own, even if pharmaceutical companies do not apply.
Now the official procedure takes 210 days, but in fact it stretches for years. We have legislatively combined all bureaucratic stages, including examination and approval of the maximum price, into one composite service. This will dramatically accelerate the appearance of medicines on shelves,Aimagambetov wrote.
Another change concerns quality control. Raw materials for the production of domestic medicines will now be checked at the border, the deputy added.
