Kazakhstan to Build 3 Billion Tenge Dam Along Lake Alakol

The government has allocated three billion tenge from its reserve to build a six-kilometer protective dam along Lake Alakol, Orda.kz reports, citing the government press service. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov signed the corresponding resolution. 

The dam will include a 2.5-kilometer section near the village of Koktuma and a 3.5-kilometer section near Akshi.

In 2025, crews completed shoreline reinforcement, earthworks and concrete work along a 1.7-kilometer section. They also installed gabions — wire cages filled with stone or gravel.

The government expects the new protective infrastructure to support tourism development in the region.
