Salaries in Kazakhstan are failing to keep pace with rising prices, with the country showing the worst real wage dynamics in the EAEU in the first quarter of 2026, Orda.kz reports.

According to the Eurasian Economic Commission, the average salary in Kazakhstan rose by 9.1% over the year. But inflation erased that growth.

In January–March 2026, the average monthly nominal salary in Kazakhstan reached 461,486 tenge, or $927.

Adjusted for inflation, real wages in Kazakhstan stood at 97.7% of last year’s level. In simple terms, the purchasing power of salaries decreased.

By comparison, real wages rose by 8.7% in Russia, 7% in Belarus, and 5.2% in Kyrgyzstan. Armenia also recorded a decline, but it was smaller than Kazakhstan’s: real wages there stood at 98.8% of last year’s level.

Kazakhstan remains third in the EAEU in terms of average salary, behind Russia and Belarus. But in terms of real wage dynamics, the country came last.
