Kazakhstan does not face a shortage of road bitumen, according to the Ministry of Energy. The country currently has four bitumen production plants with a total capacity of 1.6 million tons per year, while domestic demand in 2026 is expected to be about 1.1 million tons, Orda.kz reports, citing the ministry.
This means Kazakhstan fully covers its domestic demand for bitumen, which is used in road construction and repairs.
The ministry said this was made possible by expanding the capacity of the Caspi Bitum plant, where oil processing increased from one million to 1.5 million tons per year. As a result, road bitumen production rose from 500,000 to 750,000 tons annually.
Caspi Bitum is ready to produce bitumen in sufficient quantities if road construction companies submit applications, the Ministry of Energy said.
According to the ministry, this should ensure a stable supply of domestically produced bitumen to the road construction industry, reduce dependence on imports, and improve stability in the domestic petroleum products market.
