Kazakhstan has become the only country in Central and East Asia to receive the status of a foot-and-mouth disease-safe zone with vaccination, Orda.kz reports, citing the Agriculture Ministry.
On May 22, delegates from 183 member countries of the World Organization for Animal Health unanimously approved the decision. The certificate was presented to the Kazakh delegation during the organization’s 93rd General Session in Paris.
Today, the entire territory of Kazakhstan is covered by internationally recognized zones that are safe for FMD with vaccination. Kazakhstan has become the only state in Central and East Asia with this status, the ministry said.
Since January, Kazakhstan has banned cattle imports from the German state of Brandenburg due to a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.
