The authorities are strengthening cooperation in the military, logistics, and energy sectors, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has signed a law ratifying the Treaty on Deepening and Expanding Allied Relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The treaty, signed in April 2024 in Astana, aims to bring the two countries closer strategically — in areas ranging from politics and security to science and trade.
Under the agreement, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will enhance mechanisms for regular contact at the highest and governmental levels, coordinate foreign policy positions, and expand cooperation in the military sphere and in combating transnational threats, including terrorism, extremism, cybercrime, and drug trafficking.
The partnership also includes civil sectors such as education, culture, science, logistics, and cooperation in water and energy. By 2026, a major transport and logistics hub is planned at the Qarasu–Aq Tilek border crossing, and by 2030, the countries aim to increase mutual trade turnover to three billion dollars.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan signed an updated agreement on mutual investment protection. This new agreement replaces the 1997 treaty and offers legal guarantees for investors, including protection against expropriation and access to international arbitration.
