Kazakhstan should develop a separate state strategy for children’s content in the Kazakh language and tighten control over TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms, Mazhilis deputy Danabek Isabekov said, Orda.kz reports.
According to him, social media plays a major role in shaping the views of children and teenagers, while high-quality Kazakh-language content remains limited.
We must admit that today children’s consciousness is often shaped not by school, but by TikTok. During the summer holidays, teenagers spend several times more time online. They become addicted to online games, short videos, and uncontrolled content, the deputy said.
Isabekov said Kazakh-language cartoons, educational projects, and children’s media platforms cannot yet compete with the flow of content on major global platforms. According to him, this contributes to clip thinking, weakens the national cultural code, and increases the influence of foreign culture.
In the modern information world, state borders are protected not only by territory, but also by information. Unfortunately, Kazakh-language children’s content, educational platforms, animation, science and education programs, and media projects cannot compete with the aggressive flow of information on global digital platforms. A high-quality digital environment in the Kazakh language has not yet been formed. In this regard, a specific state strategy should be adopted at the national level to develop high-quality digital content for children in the Kazakh language,Isabekov said.
He also proposed improving legal and technical mechanisms to restrict content on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and other digital platforms if it could negatively affect children’s mental health.
