In the Talgar district, the investigation into the fire at the home of Karzhaubay Nurymov’s family — whose teenage son Sherzat was killed — has been temporarily suspended, the prosecutor’s office told Kazinform, reports Orda.kz.
In connection with the fire in the house of Karzhaubay Nurymov, the pre-trial investigation period has currently been suspended in accordance with paragraph 5 of part 7 of article 45 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (in connection with the implementation of procedural actions to provide legal assistance),
the supervisory authority stated.
The suspension means investigators are likely waiting for responses from other agencies. The case is “frozen” but not closed until the necessary information arrives.
Sherzat’s family lawyer, Meirman Shekeyev, told Orda.kz he was unaware of the suspension.
I met with Karzhaubay Nurymov last night. They don’t know anything either,
he said. Shekeyev is preparing an appeal, with a court date set for August 18.
The fire occurred soon after Sherzat’s death.
In spring, the Prosecutor General’s Office said it planned to analyze satellite images to determine what cars were near the house during the blaze, sending an international investigative request to Russia.
“This will take quite a bit of time,” Deputy Prosecutor General Galymzhan Koigeldiyev said at the time.
