Extreme heat is forecast in Almaty from July 16 to 20, with temperatures reaching 42°C in some areas. It is expected to be the hottest period of the summer so far. In response, city services will increase the frequency and scale of street watering, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Almaty akimat, 16 fleets of specialized vehicles will take to the streets during the hottest hours. The vehicles will water the road surface and spray water into the air. The work will cover more than 128 streets with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Daily cleaning of the city is also continuing. More than 500 specialized vehicles are being used to wash roads, sidewalks, bus stops and other urban infrastructure.
Watering the roads and spraying water into the air will help lower temperatures near the road surface, reduce dust and protect the asphalt from overheating.
Earlier, Orda.kz reported that ambulance calls had increased in Almaty because of the extreme heat.
