Head of Azerbaijani Cultural Autonomy in Moscow Region Reportedly Loses Russian Citizenship

Elshan Ibrahimov, head of the Regional National-Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis of the Moscow Region, has been stripped of his Russian citizenship, Orda.kz reports, citing The Insider.
According to Oxu.Az, Ibrahimov himself confirmed the information in a phone call with the outlet.
He declined to offer further comment, saying he would speak in more detail after returning to Azerbaijan in the coming days.
According to RBK, citing its source, Ibrahimov was stripped of citizenship on June 18 for “actions posing a threat to the national security of the Russian Federation.”
Ibrahimov is listed on the official website of the Azerbaijani cultural autonomy as a member of the Public Chamber of the Moscow Region and the regional Consultative Council on National-Cultural Autonomies.
The news comes amid tensions between Moscow and Baku.
Earlier in July, Russian authorities detained two prominent Azerbaijani crime figures. Vagif Suleymanov was detained in Moscow, supposedly for violating residency regulations.
In Orenburg, Zaur Shipilov was detained on charges of holding a top position in a criminal hierarchy (Article 210.1 of the Russian Criminal Code), according to 112.
Shipilov was transferred to pre-trial detention on July 4.
