Bishkek will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on August 30–31 and September 1. Many high-ranking guests are expected, and streets will often be blocked. Therefore, the authorities have asked residents to leave the city temporarily, Orda.kz reports.
The request was published on social media by Askat Alagozov, press secretary of the president of Kyrgyzstan. He noted that, for the first time, the country will be visited by the heads of 21 states at the same time. Some of them will arrive with their first ladies.
In this regard, we appeal to Bishkek residents with a request: if possible, spend these days at Issyk-Kul or other holiday destinations. Otherwise, you will primarily face inconvenience yourselves, since roads in the city will often be closed for three days,Askat Alagozov added.
In addition, the start of the school year in Bishkek has been postponed: schoolchildren and students will begin classes on September 15.
Therefore, there is no need to hurry back to Bishkek by September 1. You can already plan your vacation until September 15,the press secretary of the president of Kyrgyzstan concluded.
Astana residents also often face transport problems during visits by high-ranking guests. For example, in 2024, when Kazakhstan’s capital hosted a summit of Central Asian leaders, residents experienced major traffic disruption.
