Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the United States has yet to respond to Tbilisi’s proposals to reset bilateral relations, Orda.kz reports, citing 1tve.Ge.
Two letters were sent from Tbilisi to Washington — one written by Kobakhidze himself and another by President Kavelashvili. Both criticized the U.S. administration for its lack of attention toward Georgia, calling it strange given the countries’ “shared values.”
As NewsGeorgia writes, Kobakhidze added that despite the absence of the expected response from Washington under the Trump administration, recent meetings between Georgian and U.S. representatives “have not been tense.”
The Trump administration has so far kept in place all measures and sanctions introduced under President Biden, including the suspension of the strategic partnership and financial sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Meanwhile, the MEGOBARI Act, a U.S. bill aimed at sanctioning Georgian officials accused of undermining democracy and blocking the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration, is still pending in the Senate.
