The Anti-Corruption Service has put Argyn Nigmatulin, former director of the Saryarka Hockey Club, on the wanted list, Orda.kz reports.
The wanted notice states that the case was registered in Astana on March 3, 2025.
The Prosecutor General's Office responded to Orda.kz's inquiry that the criminal case is being conducted against "A. Z. Nigmatulin and other persons suspected of embezzling budget funds allocated for the development of hockey in the Qaraganda region."
As part of the pre-trial investigation, A.Z. Nigmatulin was recognized as a suspect, with the court's sanction, a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen against him, and due to his location outside the Republic of Kazakhstan, he was declared wanted, The Prosecutor General's Office said.
Argyn Nigmatullin is the elder brother of the former Majilis Chair, Nurlan Nigmatulin.
Orda.kz previously wrote about how the Saryarka hockey club, worth 900 million tenge, ended up in the hands of the Nigmatulin family. In July 2024, the club was returned to state ownership.
We have contacted the Nigmatulin brothers' office for comment and await their clarification.
