On the morning of September 29, around 10:00, Murat Dosmuratov, Managing Director of Oil Refining and Petrochemicals at KMG Engineering LLP and former head of the Atyrau Oil Refinery (ANPZ), died at the Somerset Hotel in Atyrau, Orda.kz reports.
According to preliminary information, the cause was a heart attack.
"The hotel staff called an ambulance, but doctors declared him dead," a source said.
Another source confirmed to Orda.kz that Dosmuratov died while on a work trip to Atyrau.
Family Statement
His wife, Nurgul, said he had been experiencing heart problems:
He was taken to the cardiology center; he'd been having heart problems lately. Yesterday, he flew to Atyrau on a business trip — he was supposed to tour all the factories in Kazakhstan. Colleagues reported that he had a seizure last night.
Career and Recent Trial
Dosmuratov had long worked in Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry. In November 2024, he was charged with improper performance of official duties linked to a heat exchanger repair. He was initially found guilty, but after a retrial in August 2025, he was fully acquitted, with an official apology issued on behalf of the state.
In September 2025, he was appointed Managing Director of Oil Refining and Petrochemicals at KMG Engineering. Colleagues described him as a highly qualified specialist with extensive experience.
Official statements from KMG and law enforcement are expected.
Orda.kz expresses condolences to the family and friends of Murat Dosmuratov.
