Erbol Khamitov Brings Kazakhstan Gold At The 2026 Paralympics

Kazakhstani athlete Erbol Khamitov became a champion in para biathlon after winning bronze in para cross-country skiing, beating all his rivals, Orda.kz reports.
At the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Italy, the athlete won the gold medal in the 4.5-kilometre pursuit race.
The Kazakhstani covered the distance in 9:39, making one miss at the second shooting stage. Silver went to Ukraine’s Taras Rad, who finished 21.5 seconds behind. Bronze was won by China’s Liu Zixu, 32.5 seconds back.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Erbol Khamitov on his victory. The president noted that the athlete had gone through a difficult path and achieved an outstanding result thanks to his perseverance and strength of spirit.
The XIV Winter Paralympic Games have been held since March 6. More than 660 Paralympians are competing for 79 sets of medals in six sports. The programme includes cross-country skiing, biathlon, alpine skiing, curling, snowboarding and sledge hockey. Kazakhstan is represented by seven athletes.
Kazakhstan is now in 17th place in the overall standings with two medals. The leaders are China, the United States and Italy.
