Nurasyl Bolat, convicted of assaulting lawyers Oleg and Anna Chernov, is once again attempting to replace his prison term with a monetary fine. However, both the administration of the correctional facility and the victims oppose the move, Orda.kz reports.
The high-profile case involving the son of Deputy Darkhan Turlykhanov continues to unfold. In 2023, Bolat was found guilty under Article 107 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code (“Intentional infliction of moderate bodily harm”) for the attack on the Chernovs.
The Supreme Court upheld a sentence of restricted freedom.
Following repeated violations, that sentence was later replaced with real prison time. Bolat is currently serving it.
Recently, he filed a petition to have the remainder of his sentence replaced with a fine. The proposal was rejected by both prison authorities and the victims.
The head of the institution is against replacing it with a fine. I am too. I think it is too early to go to the sea, and it seems to me that resolving the issue with money that you did not earn is not serving a sentence, but a ransom, in my opinion. There is a wonderful alternative – restriction of freedom, but we have already seen it,
wrote Anna Chernova on her Instagram.
The court will hold a hearing on the matter on June 19, 2025. Orda.kz will continue to follow the case.
