According to First Deputy Defense Minister Sultan Kamaletdinov, Kazakhstan's decision to amend its territorial defense legislation is a deliberate, preventive step in response to the current international climate, Orda.kz reports.
Kamaletdinov emphasized that delaying such measures would be a serious mistake:
Did you want us to do this in ten years or yesterday? Yesterday is no longer an option, and in ten years — we don’t know, maybe other formations will appear there.
The country’s defense policy, he explained, is shaped by a thorough analysis of both global and regional geopolitical developments.
We can’t predict everything, and the armed forces can’t protect every building. If a citizen says, ‘I’ll defend my home, defend my bakery,’ that’s a good thing. Why should we stand in the way of that?he explained.
The Senate has now approved amendments to the law on territorial defense in two readings, marking a significant step in enhancing national preparedness.
