Ruslan Berdenov, who earlier survived an armed attack, has stepped down from his post as Deputy Akim of Shymkent at his own request, Orda.kz reports, citing the city Akimat.
The reasons for his resignation were not disclosed.
News of his departure came shortly after the verdict in the case of the assassination attempt against him. This past spring, Yernar Zhiembay shot Berdenov five times. On August 20, a court found Zhiembay guilty and sentenced him to nine years in prison.
The Akimat had previously denied rumors of Berdenov’s resignation. He was appointed Deputy Akim in February 2025.
