Court Sentences Six in Shymkent in Extortion and Assault Case Linked to Alleged Dzhumageldiev Associate

In Shymkent, a court has issued a verdict in a case involving six individuals reportedly connected to Arman Dzhumageldiev. They were found guilty of extortion, conspiracy, unlawful deprivation of liberty, causing serious bodily harm, and possession of a firearm, Orda.kz reports.
The primary defendant is 35-year-old Dauir Taukeev, reportedly part of Dzhumageldiev’s circle. Taukeev has previously appeared in criminal cases and was earlier sentenced to five years for a shooting incident in a café, though he now faced new charges before completing that sentence.
According to case materials, Taukeev assumed a leadership role in a group operating in Shymkent.
During 2023–2024, the group was involved in collecting money through intimidation and coercion. Victims were held in hotels and rented apartments.
Due to the fact that the victim did not repay a debt of about 50 million tenge, S.A. (one of the defendants - Ed.), exceeding his authority, arbitrarily collected 43.6 million tenge from him,
the case materials state.
In another instance, group members demanded two million tenge from an individual “as a sign of respect,” and those who did not comply were physically assaulted.
In May 2024, defendant O. D., while in a café on N. Nazarbayev Avenue in Shymkent, met with victim M. A. The latter, citing a minor conflict in the past, struck O. D. several times. In response, the defendant, exceeding the limits of necessary self-defense, picked up an object that came to hand and struck victim M. A. several times, causing serious bodily harm.
Taukeev was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Two others received sentences of more than four years, while the remaining defendants were given one-year prison terms, with one receiving a restriction of freedom for the same period. The verdict has yet to enter into force.
In February, Orda.kz reported on a Shymkent resident who shared an anonymous account of being pressured for two years over disputed debts.
Arman Dzhumageldiev is currently serving a sentence related to the January 2022 unrest. He was convicted earlier in 2025.
