First Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Rostislav Konyashkin said banks were not the source of personal data leaks in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
According to him, under the law banks are required to request clients’ personal data in order to provide services and prevent fraud. At the same time, he said, this is always done with the client’s consent and under strict rules.
Konyashkin added that he could recall a data leak involving microfinance organizations, but said there had been no such cases involving banks.
In fact, we are not against extending this to other platforms even now. But why did we start with banks? Simply because, together with state systems, they are subject to much stricter regulation than other private platforms and startups.he said.
Konyashkin said identification is a mandatory part of banking operations and is not connected to data leaks.
