Former head of the Almaty Region Education Department, Saltanat Bespayeva, has been appointed head of the Almaty Region Language Development Department, Orda.kz reports.
The story surrounding the eviction of children from Orphanage No. 1 in Baganashyl has been ongoing since early spring. It has caused widespread public outcry and attracted significant media attention.
Then, Saltanat Bespayeva, head of the education department, and Yerik Abitov, head of the internal policy department, resigned voluntarily. According to Orda.kz sources, there were no serious complaints against Bespayeva, who was considered a reliable administrator.
However, Yerik Abitov’s actions put the region in a difficult position. He mishandled the information campaign, which ultimately brought the situation to President Taqayev’s attention.
Since August, Abitov has not held a government post but continues to lead the Almaty Region Maslikhat’s standing committee on economics, budget, law and order, anti-corruption, parliamentary powers, and ethics.
Saltanat Bespayeva has now taken on her new position as head of the Almaty Region Department for Language Development. Her former role in the regional education department has been filled by Arailym Toleubekova.
Meanwhile, the saga of Orphanage No. 1 is not over. The building currently housing the children is set to be demolished, and they will be temporarily relocated. According to Almaty Deputy Akim Azamat Kaldybekov, the residents are expected to be moved within the city limits.
