The building of the controversial Boarding School No. 1 in Almaty will undergo reconstruction, during which its children will be temporarily relocated within the city, Orda.kz reports.
According to Deputy Akim Azamat Kaldybekov, the project follows a directive from the president.
'In accordance with the President’s directive, the center’s building will be completely renovated. Integra LLP has committed to corporate social responsibility and is ready to begin relocating the children,' said Kaldybekov. 'The Almaty City Department of Education is overseeing where the children will be transferred. A project is now being developed to include demolition and construction of a new facility within the current site.'
Department representative Sairan Saifedenov added:
The issue of moving the children to Boarding School No. 1, which is also under the Department of Education, is currently being discussed. Just two weeks ago, more than 90 children from the specialized home ‘Zhanuya’ were living in this boarding school. The children will have almost 1,100 square meters and 18 rooms at their disposal. The building has undergone routine repairs. By the end of the week, after the children have moved out and the center’s premises are vacated, the construction company will begin renovations.
Earlier, Orda.kz reported that the president halted plans to relocate the children to the Almaty Region. More details about the former Baganashyl orphanage can be found in our previous coverage.
The editorial team continues to monitor the situation.
