Kazakhstan has long been the leader of Central Asia’s aviation market and developed faster than its neighbors. However, the International Air Transport Association, or IATA, considers Azerbaijan’s aviation market more mature, Orda.kz reports.

IATA Regional Vice President for Europe Rafael Schvartzman said Kazakhstan had long led the aviation market in Central Asia. He said the country developed faster than its neighbors and had done significant work to grow the industry.

He named flight safety as one of Kazakhstan’s main challenges. Over time, the country was removed from aviation blacklists. According to the IATA representative, this helped the industry develop and gave momentum to local airlines.

If we talk about Central Asia, Kazakhstan has been the leader of the region for a long time, developed faster than other countries and has done a great job,Schvartzman said.

The vice president identified the geopolitical crisis as one of the main development factors for Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. According to him, it partly increased air traffic and helped unlock the region’s potential.

Today, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are in slightly different but largely similar situations. Restrictions on the use of certain airspaces create new opportunities for the development of both cargo and passenger air transportation. Now is the right time to find and implement such opportunities in these countries,Schvartzman said.

At the same time, IATA considers Azerbaijan’s aviation market more mature than those of Central Asian countries. Schvartzman said Azerbaijan began developing its aviation market earlier and was involved in international logistics and humanitarian operations at an early stage. This helped the country develop large cargo terminals and cargo aviation.
