The family of former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has been evicted from their residence in Koi-Tash, Orda.kz reports, citing Kaktus Media.
According to Atambayev’s son Kadyrbek and daughter Aliya Shagiyeva, police cut through the door with a grinder and removed belongings from the house.
Kadyrbek Atambayev published an appeal thanking citizens for “thousands of words of support and offers of help.” He said the family would stay with relatives for now.
"For some, value is gold, money, planes, expensive jackets. For us, the main thing is to stay with our people," he wrote.
Authorities earlier announced plans to build a nursing home and a nursery on the site. The Atambayev family insists it is their only home and notes that legal proceedings are still ongoing.
The eviction follows earlier attempts by unidentified groups to storm the Koi-Tash residence. Before this, Raisa Atambayeva appealed to the president and the people of Kyrgyzstan regarding the eviction.
