Emergency services are working around the clock as the Yesil River continues to rise rapidly, posing a risk for multiple villages, Orda.kz reports.
In the Astrakhan District of the Aqmola Region, authorities are preparing to declare a state of emergency due to natural causes. The official decision is expected today, as worsening flood conditions pose a serious risk to several settlements.
According to the regional Department of Emergency Situations, the villages of Stary Koluton and Yenbek are currently at risk. In recent days, water has approached residential areas, with some yards already flooded.
Rescuers and military personnel have been dispatched urgently to reinforce riverbanks with sandbags.
The neighboring Jaqsyn District also remains at risk. Water levels near the village of Kiyma continue to rise. Emergency teams have placed over 5,000 sandbags to reinforce the dam and are actively pumping out water.
In Atbasar District, floodwaters have already reached the village of Akana Kurmanova. Streets are submerged, and residents are forced to move through water. Four houses have sustained damage. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, along with military units from Qaraganda, are currently working at the site.
If the state of emergency is officially declared in Astrakhan District, it will remain in effect until the aftermath of the flooding is fully resolved.
Earlier, it was reported that in the village of Bolshaya Malyshka, located in the Qyzyljar District of the North Kazakhstan Region, floodwaters destroyed a newly built protective embankment. Meltwater flooded residential yards and came dangerously close to submerging homes.
