Astana Man Gets 16 Years over Parcels from Thailand

An Astana resident has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for large-scale drug smuggling, Orda.kz reports.

According to police, the 32-year-old received three international parcels from Thailand containing cannabis extract, also known as hash oil. The seized substance weighed about 2.9 kilograms in total.

 

During a search of his temporary residence, investigators found drugs prepared for sale, electronic scales, packaging materials, cash and other evidence.

The court found the man guilty of smuggling drugs on a particularly large scale and sentenced him to 16 years in prison.
