In Astana, 21 women were fined for wearing niqabs in public places, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakhstan’s ban on clothing that fully covers the face has been in force for almost a year. The law prohibits wearing items in public places that prevent a person from being identified. Exceptions are allowed only in cases provided by law. Authorities said the changes were needed to ensure public safety.
During inspections, police identified 21 women in public places whose clothing covered their faces. Administrative protocols were drawn up against all of them under Part 1 of Article 434-3 of the Administrative Code.
Police continue to carry out raids and awareness work in parks, on streets and in shopping and entertainment centers.
