A fatal accident occurred on August 5 at “Bogatyr Komir,” Kazakhstan’s largest coal mine in Pavlodar Region, Orda.kz reports.
According to the company, a traction unit operator died after being struck by high-voltage electricity. When paramedics arrived at the scene, the 42-year-old man was already dead, and the death was confirmed by a fieldsher on site.
The State Labor Inspection Committee said a special commission with representatives from government agencies will investigate the circumstances, while the exact cause of death will be determined by a forensic medical examination.
The company stated it would provide full assistance to the victim’s family regardless of the investigation’s outcome.
According to “Bogatyr Komir”’s social report, the mine has recorded at least six fatal accidents over the past three years — two each in 2022, 2023, and 2024. In some cases, the deaths involved severe injuries, and several were not officially recognized as work-related.
Just days earlier, on August 2, a 32-year-old electromechanic was seriously injured at the same site after falling from a high-voltage column. He was hospitalized with severe injuries, and the Labor Inspection Committee has launched a probe that could lead to criminal charges.
