Altay Abibullayev has replaced Daniyar Sarekenov as Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Slovenia, Orda.kz reports.
Following the appointment of former U.S. ambassador Yerzhan Ashikbayev as Deputy Foreign Minister, President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev announced several additional changes in the country’s diplomatic corps.
Sarekenov, who served as ambassador to Slovenia for just over a year, has been succeeded by Abibullayev, who now heads the diplomatic mission.
Abibullayev’s career has alternated between diplomatic service and positions in government agencies related to media. In 2013–2014, he served as director of the Central Communications Service. Over his diplomatic career, he has worked at Kazakhstan’s embassies in Austria, Poland, and Croatia, serving as ambassador to the latter two countries.
Before his new appointment, Abibullayev worked at Rompetrol, the Romanian subsidiary of KazMunayGas, where he headed the government relations department as GR Director for three months.
In addition, President Toqayev appointed Daulet Batrashev, Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Croatia, as ambassador concurrently to Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Meanwhile, Anuarbek Akhmetov, ambassador to Algeria, will also head Kazakhstan’s diplomatic mission in Tunisia.
