Almost Seven Years: Yemil Trapeznikov's Sentence Overturned
Lawyer Rena Kerimova said the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan had satisfied the defense's appeal. According to her, the boy is already home, and the state will pay the family financial compensation and reimburse expenses.
The incident happened in Qonayev last June. Three intoxicated men started a conflict with two teenagers after they were unable to buy beer at a store. One man died.
The court of first instance sentenced the teenager to six years and eight months in prison under the article “Intentional Infliction of Grievous Bodily Harm Resulting in Death.”
Later, the appellate court reclassified the article as “Causing Death by Negligence (Manslaughter)” and reduced the sentence to one year and six months.
The teenager's defense later appealed to the Supreme Court.
