Almaty Man Beaten After Being Mistaken for a Drug Courier

A late-night search for lost headphones ended with an Almaty resident being hospitalized after a man allegedly mistook him for a drug courier hiding a stash, Orda.kz reports.
The incident occurred in the city’s 6th Microdistrict. Police received a call about a young man being assaulted and sent patrol officers from the Auezov District to the scene. A suspect was detained.
According to preliminary information, the suspect said he attacked the passerby because he believed he was hiding a package of drugs. The victim said he had only been searching for his lost headphones in the bushes.
The man was injured in the attack and taken to a hospital for examination.
Police have opened a pretrial investigation.
