The Specialized Interdistrict Economic Court of Almaty has begun hearing oligarch Patokh Chodiev’s lawsuit against the Eurasian Financial Company (EFCO), Orda.kz reports.
The first session was held on August 26. According to available information, Judge Abzal Shakual will review the case in a closed format and online.
An Orda.kz correspondent learned that the opening hearing lasted only about half an hour. The court cannot disclose details, as the matter involves commercial secrecy, and journalists were not admitted.
It is also known that a counterclaim from EFCO is under review.
Some details of Chodiev’s claim had earlier circulated in Telegram channels. The businessman, who controls one-third of EFCO, is demanding that decisions of the board of directors adopted on July 30 be invalidated, and is seeking one million tenge in moral damages.
The board of directors of the Eurasian Financial Company includes Mounissa Chodieva, Shukhrat Ibragimov, and Andrey Kopov.
The dispute over EFCO is one of the fronts in the “war for the Eurasian legacy,” which broke out between the Chodiev and Ibragimov families following the death of ERG co-founder Alexander Mashkevich.
