Alibek Tazhibayev, director of the Center for Analytical Research Eurasian Monitoring and official representative of the Russian Military Historical Society (RMHS) in Kazakhstan, has stated that his primary mission is to elevate international awareness of the Kazakh people's contributions during the Great Patriotic War, Orda.kz reports.
His work focuses on uncovering archival materials, restoring the names of forgotten heroes, and publicly sharing this history at both academic and professional levels.
Tazhibayev emphasized that his role is strictly historical and cultural in nature, with no political agenda. His comments follow what he described as the spread of misinformation on social media and in certain media outlets.
He explained that his status as the RMHS’s official representative in Kazakhstan entails expert-level collaboration and participation in projects promoting accurate historical memory:
My role is to represent the interests of the Russian Military Historical Society in the Republic of Kazakhstan, participate in negotiations with government bodies, local administrations, public and international organizations, and individuals regarding the implementation of joint programs and projects. This is an expert position — it does not involve establishing any organizational or political structures within Kazakhstan, nor does it authorize me to act or sign documents on behalf of the Society.
Tazhibayev underscored the importance of Kazakhstan shaping its historical narrative based on rigorous academic research:
I believe it is fundamentally important for Kazakhstan to independently form and promote an objective national historical agenda based on scientific research, especially in light of growing efforts to distort historical truth in the global information space. I call on the public to be objective, examine the facts carefully, and resist information manipulation. It is our shared duty to protect historical truth and uphold national dignity.
A branch of the Russian Military Historical Society was established in Kazakhstan this year.
The RMHS, founded by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2012, aims to study and promote Russian military history and prevent its distortion.
