Yerzhan Ashikbayev has been dismissed from his post as Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to the United States after more than four years in office, Orda.kz reports.

Aqorda announced Ashikbayev’s removal on the morning of September 26, making it the third shake-up in Kazakhstan’s diplomatic corps that day, following the resignation of Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu and the appointment of Yermek Kosherbayev to the position.

Ashikbayev had served as Ambassador to the United States since April 2021. Over the course of his career, he held a series of roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Foreign Minister from 2013 to 2021.

His dismissal came shortly after President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev’s visit to New York.

No replacement has yet been announced.

Meanwhile, the U.S. ambassador’s post in Kazakhstan has also been vacant for several months.

Former ambassador Daniel Rosenblum stepped down shortly after Donald Trump’s inauguration, and while Julie Stufft has been nominated as his successor, she has not yet formally assumed the role.
