Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have signed a $5 million agreement to modernize infrastructure at the Torghundi Port, a key trade hub linking South and Central Asia, Orda.kz reports, citing Ariana News.
The deal was signed between Afghanistan’s Railway Directorate and Turkmenistan’s state-owned construction company Demiryollary Gurlushyk. It includes the design and construction of new loading facilities and warehouses along the Torghundi–Herat railway.
The project aims to expand cargo capacity, streamline cross-border trade, and better connect the two countries' railway networks. Afghan officials say the upgrades will boost regional logistics and strengthen the country’s position as a land bridge for commerce.
The agreement builds on growing economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, particularly in infrastructure and energy.
Afghan authorities say improved connectivity is essential for long-term development and regional stability.
