Zhandos Shaimardanov Appointed Director of Kazakhstan’s Strategic Studies Institute

President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has appointed Zhandos Shaimardanov as the new director of the Kazakhstan Institute of Strategic Studies under the President (KISI), according to an official announcement from Aqorda on June 16, Orda.kz reports.
He replaces Yerkin Tukumov, who has been relieved of his duties.
Shaimardanov has held various roles in government and quasi-governmental institutions throughout his career. He began working at the Ministry of National Economy and later held positions at the sovereign wealth fund Samruq-Qazyna and the national holding Baiterek.
He also served in senior roles at the National Bank and the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms. Most recently, he was appointed Vice Minister of National Economy in May 2025.
KISI operates as an analytical and research body, providing insights on domestic and foreign policy, security risks, and socio-economic developments. It plays an advisory role in shaping strategic planning at the national level.
