After meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Donald Trump held a lengthy phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Orda.kz reports.
This was followed by a conference call with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and leaders of Germany, Poland, Finland, Italy, and the UK.
The discussion lasted over an hour and a half. Following it, Zelenskyy announced that he would meet Trump in Washington on August 18. He voiced support for a U.S.-Ukraine-Russia trilateral meeting and stressed the importance of continued European involvement in ensuring Ukraine’s security.
Later, Trump posted on Truth Social:
Meanwhile, in a joint statement, EU leaders welcomed Trump’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine and pledged continued support for Kyiv’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They reiterated that Russia must have no veto over Ukraine’s path to NATO or the EU and that territorial decisions must rest solely with Ukraine.
They also committed to maintaining sanctions and economic pressure on Russia until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
