According to Kyiv, 21 people were killed and dozens were injured in an airstrike on the village of Yarovaya in the Donetsk region, Orda.kz reports.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian forces dropped an air bomb on civilians waiting to receive their pensions.
“A frankly brutal blow... To ordinary people. At the moment when pensions were being paid out. There are no words,” he wrote on Telegram, sharing video from the scene.
The head of the Donetsk regional administration, Vadym Filashkin, described the incident as “pure terrorism.” Emergency services, doctors, police, and local officials are working at the site.
Following the strike, Kyiv renewed international appeals for sanctions and stronger diplomatic pressure on Russia.
Moscow has not officially responded to the accusations. However, in a September 8 report, the Russian Defense Ministry listed Yarovaya as an area where “enemy personnel and equipment were damaged.”
Yarovaya lies just a few kilometers from the front line northeast of Lyman. The village was occupied by Russian forces in 2022 before being retaken by Ukraine. A month ago, local authorities began evacuating residents amid fears of a new offensive.
