Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the verbal conflict between him and US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on February 28 via social media, Orda reports.
Zelenskyy said that he “would like to reaffirm Ukraine’s commitment to peace” and emphasized that he and his team are prepared “to work under the strong leadership of President Trump to achieve lasting peace.”
As an initial step in a ceasefire agreement, he proposed “the release of prisoners and a ceasefire in the skies, that is, a ban on missiles, long-range drones, bombing of energy and civilian infrastructure, and an immediate ceasefire at sea if Russia does the same.”
Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal, he wrote.
Zelenskyy acknowledged that his meeting at the White House in Washington did not go as expected:
It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive.
Additionally, he affirmed Ukraine’s readiness to sign an agreement on mineral resources and security “at any time and in any convenient format”:
We see this agreement as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees, and I truly hope it will work effectively.
On March 4, US President Donald Trump is set to address a joint session of Congress, where he is expected to outline his plans for Ukraine. He has already stated that he will tell "everything as it is."
