On the sidelines of the NATO summit, U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting that lasted over 40 minutes, Orda.kz reports.
Zelenskyy later described the conversation as meaningful and said he would share more details soon.
In a post on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian president said the two leaders discussed all key issues, including efforts to achieve a ceasefire and lasting peace, as well as the protection of civilians.
“We talked about how to reach a ceasefire and real peace. We also spoke about protecting our people. We appreciate the attention and willingness to support peace efforts,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Following the meeting, journalists asked Trump how the conversation went and whether a ceasefire was discussed.
The U.S. president responded that the meeting was more personal:
I didn’t talk about a ceasefire with him. I just wanted to see how he’s doing. He was very nice. From the meeting, I took away that Zelenskyy wants the war to end. I have to talk to Vladimir Putin and see if we can get it ended. And the insanity of nearly 7,000 Ukrainian and Russian soldiers killed last week — I’ll talk to Putin. I had a good meeting with him. Trump said.
