Former managers of the Yekibastuz GRES-2 power station and a contractor were put on trial for large-scale embezzlement, Orda.kz reports.
According to investigators, in 2012–2014, the station signed a contract with a company that lacked both the resources and the capacity to carry out the order.
The documents indicated it was supposed to supply a rotary loader and a dredger, but the equipment never arrived, and the work was only partially completed.
The state’s losses were estimated at 1.1 billion tenge.
The court found one of the defendants guilty of fraud, but released him from liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. He was acquitted of the second episode. The other three defendants were fully acquitted due to the absence of corpus delicti. The station's civil claim was partially satisfied,
the court documents state.
Earlier, prosecutors uncovered another theft of about one billion tenge allocated for the installation of the third power unit at Yekibastuz GRES-2.
In April 2024, the station’s owner was also ordered to pay 640 million tenge in corporate tax.
