Yekibastuz Court Sentences Emergency Officials and Businessman in Corruption Case

The Yekibastuz court has sentenced the head of the city emergency department, his deputy, and a local businessman to prison for corruption, Orda.kz reports.
According to Antikor, the verdict was issued against emergency department head Kukonev, his deputy Maimanov, and businessman Zhumashev.
The officials were found guilty of repeatedly accepting bribes from Zhumashev totaling 7.4 million tenge. In return, they facilitated contracts between his company and a non-governmental fire service.
Kukonev was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison, while Maimanov and Zhumashev received seven years each.
All three have been permanently barred from holding positions in the civil service and quasi-public sector. Kukonev was also stripped of his "civil defense colonel" rank, and Maimanov of his rank of "civil defense major."
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
